Thanksgiving Past, Thanksgiving Present - a novella
It was Thanksgiving that Eleanor met her husband, Thanksgiving when they were married, and Thanksgiving when he died and she ran away. Now it’s Thanksgiving again and Eleanor has finally come home to face her grief and the friends she left behind.
But there are new friends awaiting Eleanor, friends that will force her to accept her loss, friends who just might make her want to live again.
Thanksgiving Past Thanksgiving Present Twelve Months of Romance November eBook Margaret Lake
Eleanor is coming back home after having been gone three years. After her husband's funeral she had just grabbed enough clothes to make it for a week, left a note for the lawyer telling him to take care of the house, and then headed south. It had been so hard caring for Gavin and watching the cancer take him from her. She just needed to get away from everything, but now she is back in town and ready to see what the future will hold.Eleanor and Gavin were good friends with another couple, Amy and Luke. Both of them are thrilled to have her home again, and they are more than willing to put her to work at the homeless shelter. She and Gavin had met at the shelter: he was a regular volunteer, and he took her under his wing and showed her the ropes when she first began volunteering.
Now there is someone volunteering at the shelter that is a mystery. Ward is there helping all the time: he visits with those who come to the shelter and tries to bring some measure of comfort, but he won't share anything about himself. And for some reason he is drawn to Eleanor.
Then we have another character introduced when Amy asks Eleanor to take some soup to Professor Nichols who is sick at home. From that first encounter he is very interested in Eleanor, but he is always a perfect gentleman.
Eleanor isn't sure she is ready to let go of the past - let go of Gavin - and move forward, but it seems that two men, Ward and Porter, might be interested in her. Will she open herself to the possibility of love once again? And is love really what both of these men are seeking? Maybe one of them isn't even certain himself what he wants (or needs) to do.
Eleanor is beginning to laugh again, beginning to dress up again, beginning to live! Maybe it IS time to see what the future will hold.
This was a nice little story for an afternoon. It is nothing complicated or deep. Cozy, warm fuzzy type story.
Eleanor is a treasure. You can see her beginning to blossom once again as if she is coming out of the cocoon she has built around herself. Also. you can almost feel Ward's pain, and yet you sense that he is almost numb - almost as if he is just going through the motions. Then as he finds Eleanor and grows closer to her, you see him begin to come to terms with what has been burdening him for so long. You can feel the energy between Eleanor and Ward as well as Eleanor and Porter. So many feelings growing between all the characters, but where will they lead? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: ALL of them are thankful for the friendship they have found.
